The first few months of parenting can come as a real shock.

No one can prepare you for how sleep deprivation will affect you. Your body might be sore, and your relationships might feel strained. You want to be with your baby but need a break too.

If this isn’t what you’d imagined or hoped for, you’re likely finding it hard, feeling overwhelmed and anxious. 

You’re not alone and there’s nothing wrong with “you” to be feeling like this.

You are not a bad mother. I can show you how to turn this around and start to feel like you again while building an unshakable bond with your baby. I’m here for you.

Have you had a difficult journey to conceive, earlier losses, a difficult pregnancy or labour? Are you struggling to adapt to motherhood or just feel like something’s not quite right? These experiences can have a huge impact on mental health. Support where you feel heard, safe to share your thoughts and fears is crucial. This will help you move from a place of anxiety, guilt and sense of loss to a place where you’re calmer, courageous and ready for whatever comes next.

If you’ve suffered a loss at any stage of pregnancy, including failed IVF attempts, do you fear that you’ll lose your new baby too? Nervous to look over the cot, or a deep sense that something bad will happen? This is no way to live. You don’t really want to be that person. It doesn’t need to be like this and I’ll guide you to a better, more comfortable, happier place. 

With the right support, you can do lose the fear and start to live more in a place of joy and excitement that you have your baby here and he’s safe.

Sometimes there can be times when you just feel completely overwhelmed and panicked. Hearing your own baby cry is different than anything else you’ve ever experienced. When it’s difficult to soothe them, the panic in you rises. When this happens the baby senses it too and they cry even harder. It can be a vicious circle. Unless there’s a medical reason, you do have the power to break the cycle but many of us haven’t been taught how. By knowing how to effectively manage our thoughts and emotions as they arise their weight lessens, and they lose their power – and we gain it! By knowing how to tame the emotions when they spike, we take back control, instead of them controlling us.

Learning how to handle the emotional and practical side of a young baby is rarely taught at antenatal classes yet it’s key. Getting this right so early on creates a fundamental shift. Having the right tools and strategies to handle the unexpected is empowering. It’s a gift that will stay with you for life. And it will stay with your child too. Often, we don’t see the effects of our behaviour until later. When we look back and reflect on how we were, and our children are, there’s often a connection. Ensuring you’re in the best emotional frame of mind will set you up for success.

This precious time that you’ve worked so hard for, is the ideal time to address concerns and fears. It will start your parenting journey in a way that suits you and your family. Many feel that their parenting style is out of sync with their personality. This is often because previous experiences are impacting the present. By addressing this at a subconscious level, proactively working together through your experiences and state of mind, you’re in a better position to start your parenting on the right track.

Our sessions will:

  • Be a safe space for you to share your fears and concerns
  • Be a forum to work through any birth trauma and related queries you have
  • Ensure your emotions are continually moving you forwards, not holding you back
  • Give you the support you need and deserve at this crucial time
  • Provide long-lasting tools to reduce any overwhelm and anxiety as they appear
  • Look at manageable ways to take care of you, as well as your baby
  • Cover the entire 4th trimester, with additional add on sessions available if required
  • Guide you to other links & resources to help your personal journey where useful
  • Be in person or online via Zoom. For in person sessions, onsite childcare is available with baby friendly toys in a home from home setting
  • Be flexible. Babies don’t always keep to a schedule. If you need to cancel a session or cut one short that’s fine. This is a kind space for you to feel renewed and grow, no additional stress required!

Being a parent will bring anxiety and you’ll be faced with the unknown. There may be times you feel out of depth. Handling those unknown situations differently can make a huge impact. Redefining and quieting negative thoughts at the root of the anxiety is the basis. Because we weren’t taught how to do this the thoughts run deeper than they seem. By addressing those, the doubting self-talk will be a thing of the past. This will have a fundamental impact on how you parent and how your children grow up. And it will teach them to manage their own anxiety levels too. This is an incredible gift for you and your whole family.

When you’re faced with intrusive thoughts that something bad will happen or that you’ll lose your baby, it can send you in to a whirlwind. The playfulness you thought you’d have has been replaced by a sense of fear. This isn’t who you are, it’s a product of your pain and experience. By reshaping your thoughts and thinking patterns the fear isn’t there anymore. The decision of what to control comes from a place of fact, not fear. You can start to have fun again. You’ll get back your playfulness and be able to enjoy this precious time.

Relationship dynamics change when a new baby comes along. You don’t have the same head space anymore. Together we’ll work though this to ensure the bond you have with yourself, baby and partner remains strong and continues to grow. This is a crucial foundation that will be so important in the coming years. Building that base now is vital.  I’m here to support you through this. To give you back the confidence that you had before, so that you can all enjoy this new stage of life.

Until now it’s likely you’ve had lots of medical support. It may be that family were around to help in the first few weeks post birth. When they’ve gone and the medical appointments become less the sense of loneliness can really set in. I’m here to support you through that time. The loneliness will go and be replaced with happiness and confidence that you’re doing the right thing. You’ll be emotionally healthier and able to acknowledge where you are now and where you want to be. You will have a deep trust that everything will be ok and you can enjoy this time. You’ll feel less worried about the “what ifs” and most importantly you’ll feel a deep connection to your baby and to those that are important to you.
